Morning Speaker: KAREN MCMILLAN | This morning’s speaker is the author of 24 books, published in 11 countries, a mixture of fiction, non-fiction and children’s books. Her non-fiction titles include – Everyday Strength, Unbreakable Spirit, Love Bytes, and Feast or Famine. Her fiction titles include Watching Over Me, and the bestselling historical novels The Paris of the East and The Paris of the West. Karen has a Diploma in Professional Writing and an Advanced Diploma of Applied Arts (Writing). Her book Love Bytes was short-listed for the Ashton Wylie Book Award. She is the author of the popular Elastic Island Adventure series for children, that is in early development to be made into a TV series. Karen is also a survivor of breast cancer.

Afternoon Speaker: ROB HARLEY | This afternoon’s speaker is one of New Zealand’s most experienced journalists and communicators. His fifty-year career as a writer across all mediums has involved him telling dramatic stories in Aotearoa, and some of the most dangerous places in the world, from where he has constructed award-winning programmes seen by millions. Internationally his journalism has tracked down the murderer of a Kiwi photojournalist, uncovered the truth behind several airline disasters, and led to the establishment of major aid programmes in the Third World. Rob has had an extensive career as a speaker and teacher on many issues. He has written six books on a variety of subjects including ‘A Safe Place to Cry’ which explores how professionals whose lives revolve around dealing with trauma process their own pain from what they witness in their jobs. His last project was a major piece of writing called ’The Courage of Women’ in which he explores the bravery and resilience of 11 incredible women who have overcome huge odds to bring about profound societal change in Aotearoa and around the world.
